Personalised Candles

Homemade candles are a versatile and beautiful gift. With endless customization optionsβ€”scents, colors, and containersβ€”you can create something truly unique for your loved ones. I started on this DIY journey 8 years ago when I designed and crafted my own wedding candle bonbonniere\’s which all the guests loved as they were unique and created with love.

Why This Gift is Trending

Personalized candles are timeless and trendy because they combine practicality with creativity. With endless customization options, you can tailor each candle to fit the recipient’s taste. Plus, they’re perfect for anyone, from coworkers to close family members.

Estimated Time: 1 hour

Skill Level: Beginner

Instructions

1. Prepare Your Workspace

Cover your workspace with parchment paper to catch any spills, and ensure all materials are within reach.

2. Melt the Wax

Using a double boiler, gently melt the soy wax flakes until they become liquid. Stir occasionally to avoid overheating.

3. Add Fragrance and Dye

Once melted, remove the wax from heat. Stir in your chosen fragrance oil (about 10% of the total wax weight) and dye chips until fully blended.

4. Prepare the Wick and Container

Attach the wick to the center of your jar using wick stickers or a drop of hot wax. Use a skewer or wick holder to keep the wick upright.

5. Pour the Wax

Slowly pour the melted wax into your prepared container, leaving about half an inch at the top. Let it cool for 10-15 minutes, then adjust the wick if needed.

6. Trim and Decorate

Once fully set (around 4 hours), trim the wick to 1/4 inch. Add a decorative label or tie a ribbon around the jar for a festive touch.

Materials Needed

  • 1. Soy Wax Flakes: Creates a clean-burning, eco-friendly candle. πŸ‘‰ Shop 100% Natural Soy Wax on Amazon
  • 2. Candle Wicks: Essential for a stable and long-lasting flame. Various types of wicks can be used however my favourite choice is wood wicks which create shorter and wider flame heights so they are safer to use. They also do not \’mushroom\’ the way cotton wicks do! That means minimal carbon build up and minimal debris and sooting. πŸ‘‰ Candle Wicks Here
  • 3. Fragrance Oils: Invest in high quality oils which will provide a long lasting scent. Test a variety of scents to satisfy your scents (no pun intended!) πŸ‘‰ Get Fragrance Oils
  • 4. Candle Dye Blocks or Chips: β€’ Add a touch of color for a festive vibe. πŸ‘‰ Buy Candle Dyes
  • 5. Heat-Resistant Glass Jars or Tin Containers: β€’ Repurpose mason jars (take a look in the kitchen for some spares) or buy decorative tins for a polished look. πŸ‘‰ Get Glass Jars
  • 6. Double Boiler or Heat-Safe Pouring Pitcher: β€’ Melt the wax safely and evenly. This is an important step to ensure the mixture is prepped well before pour. πŸ‘‰ Get Double Boilers
  • 7. Wooden Skewers or Wick Holders: β€’ Keep the wick centered during the pouring process. πŸ‘‰ Get Wick Holders
  • 8. Ribbon (Optional): β€’ Add a personal touch with a variety of festive ribbons. πŸ‘‰ Buy Decorative Ribbons
  • 9. Customised Labels (Optional): β€’ Jazz up your candles with a customised and professional finish. My favourite label printer is from Print Pods as it’s bluetooth enabled, inkless and comes with 3 rolls of thermal paper. Also useful for the office, all sorts of DIY projects and every home use such as labelling food jars, print out to-do-list, study notes and so much more. πŸ‘‰ Portable Label Printer
